About us

The mission of the
Foundation for Condylar Resorption
is to support those with condylar resorption through education, research, and patient advocacy.

Micaela Montgomery, PhD

CEO & Co-Founder

Micaela was diagnosed with condylar resorption in 2018 after nearly 2 decades of a severely recessed lower jaw, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus. She became increasingly involved in online communities relating to jaw surgery and condylar resorption after her diagnosis and, following her TMJ replacement and upper jaw surgery in 2019, she felt there was a significant need to improve support for those dealing with condylar resorption. After receiving her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology in 2021, she’s currently working as a scientific research editor and focusing her attention towards supporting condylar resorption patients and the physicians that treat them.

Her interests are developing educational materials and expanding research relating to condylar resorption disease mechanisms.

Caitlin Brown

Caitlin was diagnosed with idiopathic condylar resorption during her freshman year in college, after just a year of severe TMJ pain and symptoms. She had bilateral total joint replacements, coronoidectomies, genioplasty and more done in 2017, at age 21. She then went on to have a second successful bilateral TMJ replacement in 2019 after developing a severe cobalt allergy to the replacements. Throughout her experience she has continuously noticed a huge need for support in the condylar resorption and TMJ surgery community. She is currently a Registered Dental Assistant Student (RDA-S) with plans to pursue a surgical assistant career in OMFS.

With her personal and medical field experience she brings her passion for patient care and education, along with advocacy for condylar resorption education and research.

Juanita Butler

Juanita discovered she had idiopathic condylar resorption in 2018, having spent years searching for a diagnosis for an open bite that progressively widened after orthodontics. Meeting other patients in online support groups showed what a common experience this was and helped guide her through TMJ replacement and upper jaw surgery in 2019.

She brings this personal experience, and her background in organized labor, to her passion for patient advocacy and insurance reform.
